RE: Drumheller campgrounds?

Thanks for the heads-up about the length of stay. I suspected it would be busy but I hadn't thought of that.
I will have a look at the options in that nearby town.
Cheers!

RE: Drumheller campgrounds?

Thanks everyone for the heads-up about the rabbits.
We have a big Golden Retriever who may not be able to see them at a distance but is certainly capable of smelling them!
Maybe we should rule that one out.
I want to make a reservation this week if I can. I can't believe that we are landing there on the holiday weekend! Who planned that? :E

Drumheller campgrounds?

Can anyone recommend one of the Drumheller campgrounds? We will be there 2 nights over the July 1st weekend with 2 young boys. We are going to be spending the day at the Royal Tyrell Museum.
All of us love to swim and youngest boy is a big fishing fan but that would just be a bonus!
I have looked at the sites but it is always better to get a first-hand recommendation.
Happy Camping,

Glacier National Park BC

Hi All,
We will be beginning our trip from Vancouver Island to Niagara Falls at the end of June. As it will be the Canada Day weekend when we are making our first few stops I am looking at making reservations for the first couple of nights where I have a pretty good idea of what the stops will be.
We are planning to leave after work on our first night, take the ferry and make it to Hope. The second day we will stop around Revelstoke. I would like to stay at Glacier National Park as I am sure it must be gorgeous. There are no reservations allowed though. We would be arriving there in the early afternoon. Is this too risky? Are the camprounds there very popular?
Should I just book into a private campground instead?
Any insight is appreciated!

RE: US Route 2...fishin' and other stuff!

Wow! Thanks so much to all who replied especially Firemanmn. It is really appreciated!
The best info always comes from people who live in a place.
Thanks again and if anyone has any must-see sights please let us know.
You are right about the strong Canadian dollar too but the cost of the gas has us a bit nervous!!
Happy camping!

US Route 2...fishin' and other stuff!

Hi All,
Our family is going to drive from the west coast of Canada to Niagara Falls, Ontario this summer and come back through the US on route 2.
We have a 7 year old son who is fishing crazy and we really want to find some opportunities for him to experience some different fishing spots along the way.
We will not have a boat with us but are wondering if anyone could recommend some campgrounds/RV parks that provide opportunity for shore fishing and/or boat rentals along our route.
Neither my husband or I have ever driven the US route before so would appreciate any input for fishing and/or general places of interest!
Thanks so much,

RE: cross-Canada budget

Wow, thanks for all the great info everyone. We are all getting very excited about this trip and the boys are always asking us questions about it. It should be very memorable for all of us.
DH and I have done the drive a few times across Canada but not with a trailer and we have never driven through the States. Route 2 sounds really nice and we are really looking forward to a couple days in Glacier National Park on the way back.
If anyone has any other suggestions for things to see along the way we would be happy to get them!
Cheers and happy camping,

RE: cross-Canada budget

Thanks for your input Little Kopit.
The original question was about budget for people who had done a similar trip.
Not all of us have unlimited time and/or money so we make the best out of what we have. There are many people who could not even begin to attempt a trip like this as they don't have 4 solid weeks of vacation or the funds to do it.
We made a conscious decision to not spend alot of time in western Canada because we live here and can save that for another trip.
Let's try and work with what people have.

RE: cross-Canada budget

Hi Everyone,
We are driving the truck in our signature...a 1992 Ford Expedition and towing at 2007 19 foot Starcraft hybrid that weighs in at under 3500lbs loaded.
I actually think that we will be OK for time. We are going to make Drumheller our first major stop (2 nights) and then probably nothing major (overnighters only)until Ontario.
We are going to visit family in Niagara Falls so we will not be doing too many stays of more than one night until we get there.
We are planning to return through the northern US (route 2) to try and save some time and money and give the kids a sense of some US geography on our way back.
Any other info anyone has to offer is still appreciated!!
Cheers,

cross-Canada budget

I am wondering if people who have done something similar could give us an idea of how much this trip (or one like it) cost them.
We are planning to drive from Vancouver Island to Niagara Falls and back this summer. This is about 5500kms each way.
We have 28 days to do it and we are a family of four. We will be primarily cooking for ourselves.
Any experience you could offer would be most appreciated!!
Happy camping,

RE: starcraft 19ck

Hello Reebavic,
We just purchased an 07 19CK in the spring and we absolutely love it!!
The quality of everything is very good compared to other units we looked at. Also, the Starcraft trailers come equiped with many standard features that you will see others modifying on their trailers.
We are also a family of four with 2 adults and 2 kids.
Next summer we will be driving across Canada from Vancouver Island to Niagara Falls via Ottawa with all four of us and one big golden retriever.
We all fit quite comfortably inside even when we were camping during a solid week of rain this summer. There is lots of room for games, art projects, and movies with the layout of this trailer.
Good luck with your trailer shopping.
I hope you have as much fun with it as we are!!
Cheers,

RE: Wheel Choks

Hey BradinOhio,
We have the same trailer as you and bought 2 of the BAL deluxe locking chocks.
They work VERY well.
In answer to your question...we use one or two depending on how long we will be someplace.
Quick overnighter?....one chock.
Setting up for a couple?....both chocks.
Hope that helps!

RE: Camping World + UPS + Canada

I too have been "hosed" by UPS fees.
On a recent CampingWorld order the delivery guy who delivers for both UPS and Fed-Ex (small, rural area we live in!) said that we should ask Camping World to send stuff by Fed-Ex instead.
The brokerage fee for my $20 order was $39 using UPS!!
The Fed-Ex brokerage fee is $7!
A pretty big difference.
I asked Camping World and they said that they only use UPS. They were very nice however when I explained what this meant to Canadian customers and the manager said that he would pass on my comments.
